# Locks

> Read whether a human has taken over a thread. Locking and unlocking happen only in the console.

`GET /v0/inboxes/{inbox_id}/threads/{thread_id}/lock`

Permission `message_read`.

When `locked` is `false`, `locked_at` is `null`. The response does not say which person holds the lock.

While a thread is locked, sends in it return `423 thread_locked` and queued messages wait. Events
`thread.locked` and `thread.unlocked` report changes. Only humans lock and unlock, in the console;
there is no endpoint or MCP tool for it. See [Human takeover](/takeover/).
